One on One Tech Training Designed just for You

So, you have that tech device of your dreams. Maybe a PC, maybe a Mac, maybe an iThing or an Android whose name isn’t R2D2. Well done. You’ve read and heard so many stories about how this technology has changed lives, but while you’re making progress, there are times when you still want to throw the blasted thing out the window.

The reality is, there’s a much higher learning curve for a blind person to get to know a new piece of technology. That’s because you have to contend with the unique technology employed to make these devices accessible.

Some people, of course, just take to it. They can play with one of these gadgets, maybe sit down with the manual, and it just seems to come naturally to them. In the case of technology, I count myself in that category. I love the challenge, and the buzz I get when I work out how a new piece of technology can solve a practical problem in my daily life, or make me more independent and productive. And I get so enthusiastic about it that I like to share my discoveries, which is why I’ve always enjoyed blogging, tweeting, and producing tutorials about this stuff.

Some people, on the other hand, have to really work at showing these devices who the boss actually is. And you know, there’s no shame in that at all. Since it’s just you and me sharing  this, let me share a secret with you. I am an absolutely hopeless case around the house. Yes, I chuck things on the grill and use my microwave, but I’m never going to be a master chef. I’m not the type who would do a bit of carpentry around the place, I’m just not that way inclined? And I don’t have the foggiest idea how a car works.

Does that make me stupid? No, I have other strengths. And if you’re struggling with getting to grips with blindness technology, it doesn’t make you stupid either.

There are plenty of people out there who possess bucket loads of knowledge. There are also plenty of people out there who can teach you how to memorise a series of steps to get a particular thing done. But if you’re going to make real progress, you need someone who not only knows stuff, but someone who can explain it clearly, in plain English. You need someone who can leave you with skills that help you to problem solve and build on your own knowledge.

In various roles over the last 15 years or so, I’ve produced a wide range of audio tutorials and books. But nothing quite beats a bit of one on one time, where we can answer your specific questions and go at your particular pace.
