Coming up this week on Mosen At Large, new gadgets at Mosen Towers, blindness versus mainstream products, changes at Aira and more

Kia ora Mosen At Largers. Tap tap tap, is this thing on? Because I am typing to you live from my Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 9th gen. This is considerably easier than trying to type dead from a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon. I’ll share my initial thoughts on this new laptop, and comment on the new WeWalk smart cane that arrived at the same time.

It seems that everyone has an opinion on the topic of the place of specialised blindness products in a world where mainstream devices have the potential to take their place. We’ll hear a selection of contributions on the subject this week and you are welcome to send yours in.

Aira has announced some changes this week which will limit those accessing Aira-funded free promotions during busy times, so those who pay can use the service. Not everyone is happy about it. What do you think?

I have a feature interview this week. Cameron Algie ran peer support programmes for Vision Australia for many years and has now written a book called “I can See Clearly” which is aimed at people on a vision loss journey or who have recently become blind, as well as family members who may not understand what is happening. Cameron and I talk about the book and a bit of blindness philosophy.

As usual, there’s a wide array of blindness and technology topics from listeners on which you may like to comment once you hear them.

If you want to raise something new, you’re very welcome. Please don’t be shy, I’d love to hear from you. What makes Mosen At Large special is the global community we’ve built and all the perspectives we share with each other.

To contribute, send an email with an audio attachment or just written down to Jonathan at MushroomFM.com, or call the listener line, +18646066736, that’s 1-864-60Mosen.

Catch Mosen At Large anywhere you get podcasts. Expect the next episode to drop on Sunday morning New Zealand time.

Thank you so much for listening and contributing to the show and see you soon for Mosen At Large.
