This week on Mosen At Large, the author of the best book I have ever read

Kia ora Mosen At Largers. We’ve had some thoughtful reaction to my interview with Shermeen Khan from last week and we’ll explore some of that in this week’s episode.

But most of the forthcoming episode 142 is what I consider to be a very special and highly significant interview.

Only once in my life have I ever read a book and the moment I finished it, started reading it a second time. That happened in the last month. Sometimes, things just happen in the right order for the right reason, and I feel like all the discussion we have been having these last few months about blind culture, blind pride and the immense harm ableist language causes us have been leading up to this interview about a book that was only recently published and which I had no idea was coming when these discussions started.

The book is called “There Plant Eyes, a personal and cultural history of blindness”, and its author is M. Leona Godin. I read the Kindle book but I understand it is also available on Bookshare, and Leona reads it herself on Audible. I will talk more on this week’s show about the effect this book has had on me, but it has been profound. If it even affects you half as much, then you are in for a treat if you read it.

I’ll speak with Leona about her own personal journey to an acceptance of blind culture and the blind pride she feels, plus we’ll explore just a few of the themes in the book.

As usual, there’s a wide array of blindness and technology topics from listeners on which you may like to comment once you hear them.

If you want to raise something new, you’re very welcome. Please don’t be shy, I’d love to hear from you. What makes Mosen At Large special is the global community we’ve built and all the perspectives we share with each other.
