Join me and have your say on this Weekend’s Mosen At Large. Some big announcements from Apple, when a computer update goes badly wrong, Backpack Studio and more

Kia ora Mosen At Largers.

If you like to talk tech, it’s quite a techy show coming up for you this week.

WWDC is still a couple of weeks away, and of course we are already good to go for our coverage right after the keynote, but Apple has had a surprisingly busy week. Apple has made a series of announcements that might change the way you hear music. I’ll explain all of them, why they’re so significant and what you will need to benefit from the changes.

Apple have signalled some very cool accessibility enhancements to come, most of them presumably as part of iOS 15. We’ll recap what we know.

Whether it’s our phone or our computer, most of the time updates proceed uneventfully. But when they go wrong, boy, as a listener demonstrates this week, they can really go wrong.

Last year, I demonstrated the Backpack Studio app for iOS. This app allows you to broadcast live or create a podcast right from your iPhone. Our very own Graeme Innes actually uses Backpack Studio to produce his popular Deep Dive show on Mushroom FM. A new feature is soon to arrive in Backpack Studio, and users are testing it now. It’s called Backpack Live, and it allows you to record remote interviews and even stream them to a live audience. I’ll speak with Backpack Studio’s developer, Ed Filowat, and we’ll do the whole thing via the Backpack Live feature so you can hear what it sounds like.

Bonnie is under the spotlight in the Bonnie Bulletin, as a listener challenges her about why she likes horse racing when in his view it is a cruel pastime. We’ll use the Zoom Podtrak P4 to bring in a friend of hers via the iPhone to discuss.

As usual, there’s a wide array of blindness and technology topics from listeners on which you may like to comment once you hear them.

If you want to raise something new, you’re very welcome.

Getting your contributions in ahead of time leaves you free to hear the show, and gives me a chance to organise them all, so go for it. Please don’t be shy, I’d love to hear from you. To contribute, send an email with an audio attachment or just written down to Jonathan at MushroomFM.com, or call the listener line, +18646066736, that’s 1-864-60Mosen.

The best way to hear Mosen At Large is when it airs live and in full. Catch it on Mushroom FM, either on the station itself or in the Mushroom FM club on Clubhouse, the Mosen At Large YouTube channel and the Mosen At Large Facebook page on Saturdays at 2 PM Eastern, that’s 7 PM in the UK. It will then be available in abridged form on the Mosen At Large podcast, available anywhere you get podcasts. If you RSVP to the event on Clubhouse, you’ll be sent a notification when it starts, plus you’ll be helping to spread the word to your followers, so we really appreciate the RSVP there.

Thank you so much for listening and contributing to the show and see you soon for Mosen At Large.
